If you need urgent help

VJA is not an emergency, crisis, legal-advice, complaints or individual casework service.

  • If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
  • For a non-emergency police matter in Northern Ireland, call 101.
  • The Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline is free and available 24 hours a day, every day: 0808 802 1414 or info@dsahelpline.org.

Contacting VJA safely

Do not send detailed accounts of abuse, evidence files, medical records, identity documents or information that could identify another person through the website. Send a short initial email and we will explain whether VJA can help and, where appropriate, agree a safer next step.

We cannot promise absolute confidentiality. If information indicates an immediate and serious risk of harm, or if disclosure is required by law, we may need to share limited information with an appropriate authority. We will explain this where it is safe and lawful to do so.

Our approach to lived-experience engagement

  • Clear purpose, informed consent and the right to pause or withdraw.
  • Only collecting information that is necessary for the agreed work.
  • Respectful, trauma-informed participation without pressure to disclose.
  • Clear explanations of how contributions may be used, anonymised or quoted.
  • Appropriate signposting where a person needs support beyond VJA’s role.
